This is a popular question at the moment, should I upgrade to Office 2007?

The first question you really need to answer for yourself is: Will my system cope? Firstly take a look at the Offical Microsoft Office system requirements. I have to add that I was surprised when I say these official requirements because I was expecting them to be higher. Realistically I wouldn’t run any version of Office 2007 without 1GB of ram, especially if you like to do things quickly or have many applicaitons open at any one time.

The next thing to consider is: Do I need to upgrade?  If you are running Office 2003 then chances are you can cope for the time being with Office 2003. Office 2007 comes with a brand new interface which takes a week or two to get used to, but once you do it is fantastic, far more intuitive than all the many many menus in previosu versions.  There are many great reasons to upgrade to Office 2007 and we will talk about these in other blogs coming soon but for the mean time take a look at the Microsoft Office 2007 in Action page on the Microsoft site.

Some friends, family and clients have been saying they need to upgrade because some of their friends have got Office 2007 and keep send the new filetypes through which they can’t open!  For the time being (until you can afford to upgrade) download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Patch. This will enable you do open all the new Microsoft Office Filetypes :)

If you are buying a new Windows Vista machine then I would certainly say go for Office 2007. Although, Office 2002 & 2003 work on Vista I have already come across little things which don’t quite work as they should.

If you fancy having a go with the latest version of Microsoft Office then you can download a 60 day trial of Microsoft Office. Although while you are trying it out for 60 days start saving, because if you are like me then you won’t want to go back to any other version :)

Keep an eye out here for coming Office 2007 blogs!
