There are a number of different Web Browsers available depending on which operating system you are running all have their good points and bad points. My favourite of all the ones I have tried (which is most of them) across multiple platforms is Mozilla Firefox.

Across the opensource community there is a wide dislike of Microsoft Products, especially Internet Explorer (IE) for various reasons. However I very much like Microsoft products, Brandstar primarily use WinXP but my machine is running Windows Vista Business and i think it is fantastic!

However one thing i do prefer from the open source community is Firefox over Internet Explorer. To me it just works better! It is faster, the tabbed browsing is superb and has been around much longer than IE7. The ability to show my regular bookmarks on the toolbar saves me huge amounts of time, especially the RSS Feeds which just drop down with the latest news! Brilliant!

The number of available Add-ons is second to none, mainly because there is such a wide range of developers creating something which they themselves would find useful and sharing it. We find the web developer toolbar particularly useful when working on sites, testing and debugging. FoxyTunes is a fantastic add-on for those who like to listen to music while surfing the web! Saves clicking between programs. There are far too many to mention now but here is a list of Mozillas Recommended Add-on’s!

All the other big browsers, IE, Opera, Safari etc have their place and are essential to test with when designing and developing sites but ultimately i choose Firefox over the rest for my everyday browsing for these three reasons:

  1. The customisation abilities of Firefox - including the bookmarks toolbar as well as the add-ons.
  2. Security - Mozzila says that Firefox leads the way in online security, i don’t know how much fact there is behind that but i can say from my experience and experience of clients that since moving over to Firefox we have all picked-up up less/no nasty spyware or viruses!
  3. Speed! I don’t know if it is me, but it just seems quicker!

Check Firefox out for yourself - even if it is just your second browser!
